Q: Can the AQ Assessment be used for Recruiting/Hiring?
A: At the time of this writing, the AQme is designed in research and application for employees within teams in the context of their current work situation.
We have it in our roadmap to create branches of the assessment for applications for career and recruitment, students, and entrepreneurs... among other variations. These are exciting prospects and there are loads we want to do, but all in due time. There is no current timeline set to produce these desired variations. If this is a high priority for a client and they are willing to fund the research and development, we are happy to have that discussion.
We have a couple of Certified Practitioners who have used the Assessment in recruiting and hiring. It is not recommended to use the AQme explicitly for hiring but to better understand a candidate's AQ today. It is important to either prep the candidate and/or be aware of how to interpret and debrief the Environment questions if being used for talent acquisition. See this article for additional ideas: FAQ - The Environment questions in the Assessment aren't relevant to certain audiences
We also discussed using the AQme in recruitment in the AQ Dojo - May 2022.
Things to consider if you are looking to use the AQme in its current form for hiring:
- The Assessment could be applied in its current form with a recruitment agency, with clients, and with candidates to see how adaptable a candidate is. It is not recommended to base a hiring decision on the Assessment as the Assessment wasn't created with that use case in mind.
- We advise measuring your Organisation's AQ to get a baseline and to develop the cultural language and behaviours internally first. Bringing in people with high AQ in a toxic Environment doesn't mean new hires will thrive or change the organisation's culture without intentional work across the existing employee base.
- Use the AQme with emphasis on the Abilities and how might Grit, Mental Flexibility, Mindset, Resilience, and Unlearn be a strength in their candidacy. How have they used those muscles in the past?
- Beyond AQ Abilities, it would be important to understand a candidate's communication style, using other assessment tools and/or interviewing techniques.
- Character is informative about communicating and engaging with the candidate during times of change.
- Environment will serve as a directional guide depending on how it was framed and/or debriefed with the candidate (see FAQ article linked above).
- Overall, the AQme, in its current form, could be used to assess candidates to inform how they might adapt to the role and organization.
